In Čajetina 1.380kg of recyclable waste has been collected within the project "Odvajamo"

Primary waste selection began in Čajetina in August, and this month PUC "Zlatibor" Čajetina delivered the first quantities of dry recyclable waste to the Selection Center of PUC "Duboko" in Užice. The collection of recyclable waste in Čajetina takes place within the project "Odvajamo" implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, with the support of the European union and the Embassy of Sweden.

The Project for Household Waste Separation - "Odvajamo" will establish a waste separation system at the point of origin in 17 municipalities of Serbia by investing in equipment and inform citizens about the advantages of household waste separation with regards to its subsequent successful recycling and reduction of the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Municipalities that participate in the project are Čajetina, Sremska Mitrovica, Čačak, Pirot, Bajina Bašta, Dimitrovgrad, Bogatić, Babušnica, Ivanjica, Užice, Šabac, Kosjerić, Bela Palanka, Požega, Lučani, Šid and Pančevo.

1,380 kg of recyclable waste was collected, that is 97% clean, among which the most are cardboard and PET packaging

Authorities in Čajetina estimate that the primary selection of waste in this municipality is going in the right direction. According to them, PUC "Zlatibor" Čajetina delivered 1,380 kg of recyclables of 97% of purity. This data is an indicator that the primary selection in the territory of the municipality of Čajetina is going well, and that the separation of waste at the place of its origin is gradually entering the daily routine of the users included in the project.

The director of PUC "Zlatibor", Srđan Pantović, pointed out that positive reactions to the project have already been noticed among the citizens.

"Containers have already been removed from one part of municipality, and green bins for wet waste with a volume of 120 liters and blue bins with a capacity of 240 liters for dry waste have been distributed to the citizens. By the spring of next year, this will take root in the entire town of Čajetina, as well as in the tourist center of Zlatibor, but not in the villages for now. All the bins are chipped and with the help of a special program, they will be tracked, every time they are lifted, the software will register, it will be known exactly on which day and at what time they were emptied into the garbage trucks. The bills of the utility company to the citizens will contain all this data and based on the number of times the bins are emptied, the price will be formed," said Pantović.

The Project for Household Waste Separation - "Odvajamo" runs in 17 municipalities in Serbia, which will improve their waste management system through this project, and through the investments of the European union, the Embassy of Sweden and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, 26 waste collection vehicles, over 90,000 bins and containers, as well as public opinion research and public information campaigns were supplied. The communication campaign and technical support for the Household Waste Separation Project is carried out by Pomilio Blum, in cooperation with the local partner New Moment New Ideas Company.
