Natura 2000 movie

In cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, the project “EU for Natura 2000 in Serbia” prepared a specific a film with the aim to show the values of biodiversity and the importance of its conservation in Serbia, which was premiered during the European Green Week on 4th June at Natura 2000 Day in the Botanical Garden “Jevremovac”. In addition to the expressed importance of biodiversity conservation, the Natura 2000 project presented through the movie the main activities and achievements implemented during the two years of the project and the team of 30 experts who worked on the identification of the best sites for the protection of species and habitats that will be part of the future Natura 2000 network.

Natura 2000 is the crucial instrument of the EU's nature and biodiversity policy work to ensure the long-term survival of Europe's most valuable and threatened species and habitat types. Up to date based on sound scientific criteria, EU member states selected 27,852 protected areas all around Europe, which comprises nearly 18 % of the EU's land area. Natura 2000 is therefore considered as the largest coordinated network of protected areas in the world because each member state must provide legal protection of the Natura 2000 sites within its territory.

The EU Natura 2000 in Serbia project also aims to organize relevant state institutions for joining this network in the future.
